Earlier this year I planted four eggplant seedlings. They established quite well and turned into beautiful and healthy plants. They bloomed a lot too, but… no eggplants.
Through the three summer months, I didn’t get a single eggplant! I thought I should check if other eggplant growers had this problem. Through the Internet, I found out that I’m not the only one. Moreover, I found the solution!

The trick is to thump the blooms. How simple is that! I was so excited to find several baby eggplants on the plants just a few days after I thumped the flowers. And more of them appear every day. Luckily, here in California we still have summer weather, so there is still a chance to harvest some eggplants!
With the eggplants, tomatoes, and basil from my garden, I can now make my favorite End-of-Summer Pasta.

I wish I learned this little eggplant pollination trick earlier.

These are lovely little eggplants! Don't they look so pretty? That dish look so good too! I love eggplant parmesean with pasta at the end of summer. I didn't know about that blossom trick either!
That pasta dish looks delish! I love eggplant. xo
I only had one plant survive the spring slug feast, but it had tons of flowers. Only two fruit though. I've never heard of the "thumping". I will definitely be remembering it for next year! Thanks for the tip!
That pasta is right up my alley. Looks delish.
You may not believe this, but I have never eaten eggplant before. After looking at that recipe I will have to give it a try. Do the eggplants take up alot of room in the garden? May try to give them a grow next year.
I don't usually eat eggplant but that pasta dish looks quite yummy! I think I might try it :)

Never heard of the thumping. I have an eggplant, and it produced a couple of fruit, but now I'll try thumping - I may get more that way!
Wow--they are beautiful, and the pasta salad looks delicious!
Thumping the blooms - what next? I'm glad to hear it worked. that pasta salad looks wonderfully delicious!
My husband loves eggplant. His face lights up when he knows we are having it's for dinner. This pasta dish looks so yummy....
Hello! I have 5 plants in our garden, and they have been producing a ton of eggplants! I didn't know about your trick, but a friend of ours just told us that if the okra plants stop producing, to beat them with a stick. Haven't tried that yet, but I may!
