I am very excited as this September, my husband and I are traveling to Europe. We are going to visit three countries – France, Poland, and my native Ukraine!
Traveling and visiting new places is lots of fun! Visiting family and friends who live overseas is so exciting! But one thing that I am not looking forward to is packing!
That task can be quite overwhelming. While I still have several weeks before my trip, I should start working on it.
The first thing would be to buy a good quality luggage. But there are so many possibilities that this along is a big challenge.

Should I buy a hard or soft one? A hard one wouldn’t get wet and will be easier to clean. But a soft one wouldn’t scratch and should be lighter in weight.
The issue of weight is important. Many airlines have restrictions on luggage weight. So my suitcase should be light but at the same time sturdy.

The choice of color/pattern is not that essential, but since I want my suitcase to serve me for many years, I should go with a classical one. Bright colors are in fashion now, so a bright yellow suitcase, for example, would look chic and stylish this summer (and perhaps the next one) but in a couple of years it won’t.
I started window shopping for my luggage, but I will wait until the end of August to actually buy one. I hope there will be end-of-summer sales.

Hoe exciting! Have a great trip and safe travels. I would go with lighter, but I am a weak person! xo
Have a wonderful trip! I have soft sided luggage, it seems that I can squeeze more things into it as it has a bit of "give". Looking forward to your pictures of your travel. Heather
I am thrilled you are going to Europe and to your native Ukraine. A dear friend of mine just returned from Ukraine and wants to go back. We also need to be looking at luggage for CC who is going to Korea for a college semester and then later to teach for 2 years. The skies are no longer friendly my friend. xoxo, olive
Lucky you! I hope you have a great time. The choice of luggage might also depend on what you plan to bring back as hard suitcases offer better protection.
Dearest Olga,
The color is the least important thing for a suitcase. Priority one is for it being practical and LIGHT. We found our last two ones at T.J. Maxx for great prices, those spinner wheels and they work so well for getting you from the parking into the terminal etc.
Wishing you well for your preparation time as well as for the trip!
Hugs and love,
Mariette
How lucky for you to make such a trip. We're going to be looking at new luggage soon ourselves and right off the top of my head, 4 wheels on the bottom for easy steering is at the top of my list.
Have fun shopping Olga.

Have a wonderful trip!
I plan to get a new suitcase before my next trip. My current, good-sized travel one is soft-sided, 2 wheels and I've been happy with that. I've had it for quite a few years and next time will be looking for one that is lighter weight. A friend of mine swears by 4 wheels, but says they are a bit heavier. Either way, my theory of packing is that if I can't lift the suitcase, I can't take that much stuff. Good Luck!
I would go for a hardtop, you get ones that are made of very light material. I have this one and I am super satisfied with it, it goes everywhere, its is light, easy to handle and has loads of room. Dobraden Olga,
How wonderful that you are coming to Europe. Especially visiting your homecountry Ukraine.
My close friends Petro and Maria are in Liviv at the moment. I always get some nice present when they return. I have a few Ukranian friends here.
I like the soft type of suitcase.. for me its a must that they have wheels. The airports seem to get bigger and bigger these days, the wheels help. I like some of the photos that you have posted. Such fun now for you to choose your new suitcases ..
Enjoy Poland and France.
Dopobachane.. hopless speller of Ukranian..
best wishes have a wonderful Holiday

How wonderful that you'll be visiting your homeland and travelling through France and Poland as well. I have travelled twice to Europe recently with a small soft sided suitcase that stretches to include a few souvenirs. I also fold up an empty carry on bag inside that to use on the way home. I'll look forward to hearing all about your travels!
Hi Olya...thanks great that you are visiting the Ukraine. I'm a bad Ukrainian, I've never been there. I do go every year almost to Istanbul though to visit my husband's family ....I should just go over the Black Sea.
Are you going to Poltava? That is where my Mom's family is from and she was born there.
Suitcases.....I take big ones with me and almost empty because the Turkish markets have such great stuff that I packed them solid and still buy another suitcase in Turkey to pack more stuff.... have fun searching for a suitcase for you.
