Getting Ready to Grow Flowers

The skies finally cleared up, and the forecast predicts nice and warm weather for this week. I am so much looking forward to the gardening season!

Today, I am inspecting my flower seed supplies.

Last year, Bella from Bella’s Rose Cottage kindly sent me poppy seeds from her own garden (thank you Bella), and another friend sent me a packet of baby’s breath seeds.

Moreover, last fall I collected seeds of blue nigella and morning glory at a local park.

And, of course, I’ve been shopping for flower seeds whenever I came across inexpensive ones. For example, from a dollar store I bought seeds of marigolds, petunias, forget-me-nots, and helichrysum for only twenty-five cents a packet. I also got six bulbs of yellow gladioluses for a dollar.

From Wal-Mart, I got a root of peony, eight roots of lily-of-the-valley, and a bulb of red amaryllis. I planted them all at the same time about a month ago. The peony and amaryllis are growing well, but lily-of-the-valley is not growing at all. I hope it still will.

I'm joining other gardeners for Tuesday Garden Party @ An Oregon Cottage and Cottage Flora Thursday @ Fish Tail Cottage.

Olga- It looks like you are all ready to do some serious planting! I wish that we had some sun in our forcast. It has been a very cold & wet March. Have fun with your flower seeds.

You're so resourceful Olga! I hope your garden does well. SO glad the weather is cooperating finally. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your garden this year. I've never seen baby's breath grown in a garden. Mine always comes from the florist. Good luck!

I love what you have planted. I know from experience that it can be hard to grow things. Just give them some time and they may come up. Sometimes you can plant things one year and they will come up the next. I have never grown lilys of the valley, so don't know too much about their growing cycle. They are a beautiful plant though.

Olya....Looks like you are getting ready for your garden. I have lots of Lily-of-the-Valley flowers in my garden. They pop up themselves every year in the spring. I can see some buds trying to come out. This year we will have lots of them because my doggy Mushka passed away and she use to lie down among them and they wouldn't grow so good.
Thanks for sharing and I can hardly wait to see your pictures during the summer.

Hi Olga, I thought of you today as I was transplanting lantana to a friends house. I am going to plant an area of wildflowers with seed in April...and some sunflowers. I am trying to be much more thrifty with my gardening. My mother shared plants and cuttings all her life and hardly ever bought a plant. happy gardening♥O

Hi Olga!
I love gardening too.
I live in the North of Spain where the weather is not too cold so my peonies, poppies and so are growing very quickly.
I planted lilly of the valley some years ago, the first year, nothing, the second, nothing and when I didn't expect lots of creamy flowers were all around my garden!
It was amazing!

Good luck planting your seeds! You chose some beautiful plants. Let me know if lily-of-the-valley and herbaceous peonies work out for you - they never grew for me.

Hi Olga
You have some colourful plants to start from seed. Lily-of-the-valley is like a weed for us here but hopefully you can get some to take.
I've ordered a new peony and few other things for this year and can't wait to receive them.
I have lots of seeds to sow directly (the same poppies from Bella) and wish the weather would warm up so I can get started.

We are now finally getting some warm sunny weather here in england so I can start the long days out planting in my own garden. I too love gardening. I just hope the warm weather holds out long enough! :)
