For the past few months, I’ve posted about handmade items my mom made. Among them were two summer tops. Today, I am very excited to show a summer top that I made myself.
Let me tell you the story of this lilac top. The upper part of it is knitted, and the bottom lacy part is crocheted. It took me about eight months of work just to find out that I didn’t have enough yarn. Bellow is the picture of the pattern (from a Russian magazine), which I used.

It’s more of a beach robe to wear on top of a swimming suit. But I thought that it would look well on top of a tank top and a skirt too, so I intended my top to be much longer. But not having enough yarn (my mom brought me that yarn from a trip to Ukraine) and not being able to find anything even close, I had to make my top much shorter. It’s a pity; I’m sure it would’ve looked much better if was longer. I didn’t follow the pattern precisely for two reasons. First, I didn’t have the exact kind of yarn as in the pattern. Second, I have a bigger size than the one in the pattern. As a result, my top looks significantly different. I also decided not to add the fluffy balls on the upper part.
I enjoyed working on this top very much even though I had to tear it twice and begin again. It was a long but pleasant process.
Bellow is the pictures of what it looks like on me. With a new lilac top, even my decade old shoes got a second chance to life (so what if they are out of style! I don’t really follow the fashion).

If you would like to join me for the Handmade Monday, the guidelines are here. I’m linking my own post just to see if the inlink is working.
I wish everyone a wonderful beginning of the week.

Oh, Olga, you look SO LOVELY and your workmanship is perfect! How beautiful it turned out. I love it the length it is. So much talent. Your mom must be so pleased. :)
Olga, I like yours much, much better then the one featured in the magazine. Even the length is perfect, especially with how you're wearing it in the photo of you. It's beautiful. You did an amazing job. I wish I could knit and crochet.
Hope you have a lovely day,
Susan
I am not a fashion critic or anything, but I think your top looks much more sophisticated and elegant, and infinitely more useful than the one in the pattern!
What a remarkable talent you have!
Thanks for hosting this fun party, I hope to join off and on in the future, hopefully it will inspire me to actually do some of the projects that are in my head.
Olga you look just gorgeous in that new top. I can imagine the work it took and you fit it perfectly just for you! Absolutely lovely and the shoes are very retro and fun!

Olga, you look fantastic in you new top. I think it has the perfect length for that skirt and it is very elegant too. It was worth for working so long.
Have a beautiful week!
Wow, what a cute top!
Oh Olga, what a pretty top. It looks so perfect the way it is. I was thinking as I was reading that yours turned out so much better than the pattern picture. As I continued on to the comments I see I wasn't alone in that thought. You have a right to be very proud of your accomplishment. Running out of yarn was a blessing in disguise. And I love the shoes.
Thanks for sharing, nice post!

Dearest Olga,
You are a very smart lady with great personality that knows what to wear, how to wear it and even how to design it! People that don't have personality buy things at the store impulsively because someone tells them it's the 'IN' thing to wear. I always laugh at it as I've been in one month in the past as a consultant often in three continents and saw at the boutiques everything possible from A till Z at the same time. Half of the world has advanced seasons anyway and it all depends what the buyers select from a vast variety. Only those that know their own style will manage to put things together and wear them for decades as classic items never go out of style!
Good for you; I love you for that and it is one more reason for following your blog. A girl of my heart.
Oh, I knitted a lacy pattern sweater once only to end up with half second sleeve. I was lucky for getting still the yarn I needed! But I know that feeling...
